In Mexico everyone drinks bottled water because you can’t drink from the tap. When this was shot all the bottled water in the central part of the country came from the same place: Tehuacan. Curious, we went there looking for the source. While walking around the town we met these two kids playing soccer in the street near the church in the shot.
JUEGO DE DAMAS:
While working on a film shoot in Ecuador I used my down time to shoot stills. This was shot in Guayaquil, the hot, dusty port city near the border with Peru. While wandering around the public market I came across these guys playing checkers. The guy on the left was the champion. I kibbitzed and joked around for a while and then took out the camera.
As I was hitchhiking out of Belize City the patriarch in this shot picked me up and lectured me about how dangerous what I was doing was. He lived in Corozal, near the Mexican border, two hours away on bad roads. During the trip we made friends and he invited me to come stay with he and his family. This family portrait was shot on the day of his son’s fourth birthday.
